new app Wieferich and Wall-Sun-Sun at PrimeGrid!

new app Wieferich and Wall-Sun-Sun at PrimeGrid! There are both GPU and CPU apps available, and the CPU app is multithreaded. Hyperthreading as well as multi-threading is recommended for the CPU app. So feel free to chew up hours any way you want. The Mac GPU app currently causes a lot of screen lag, but there's a fix in the pipeline. ____________ Want to find one of the largest known primes? Try PrimeGrid. Or help cure disease at WCG.

CompositeGrid apps aren't supposed to be here afaik Doesn't that equal the same thing? The more hours we get the more testing they get. If they don't want people racking up the hours stop making tasks available when you don't need the results.

CompositeGrid apps aren't supposed to be here afaik Yup, it was this old thread, initially started by Michael Goetz to remove CompositeGrid from the stats here. All people, which had collected hours until then, got their hours deleted (me too). To see the project and the apps from it back again at new users here is somehow a punch in the face of all of them - to be honest, it makes me even more upset as I was as my hours were deleted. Not only that Michael Goetz somehow is/was very inconsequent with handling CompositeGrid (I remember reading somewhere that only invited users can/should use CompositeGrid but obviously everyone can enter it because its part of PrimeGrid), also Sebastien here from WUProp doesn't seem to care about locking CompositeGrid out of the stats completetely. That's just my 2 cent about it... ____________ Life is Science, and Science rules. To the universe and beyond Member of BOINC@Heidelberg My BOINC-Stats

yes, all previously accumulated statistics were removed, and this caused disappointment.

CompositeGrid apps aren't supposed to be here afaik It's a very small server and generally can't handle large workloads, nor is it normally set up with a continuous flow of work. Typically we'll generate 5 or 10 tasks and ask users to try running them and tell us how it worked. The problem with random, unaffiliated, users coming in en-masse is that we don't get any feedback. Just running the tasks doesn't help us any; we need to hear from you about your experience. Sometimes the output in the task is good enough, but often we want *your* feedback, not just the app's. The app can't tell us if it's causing screen lag, for example. That being said, I totally agree with your half-in/half-out position. Not knowing whether the hours are going to count doesn't help anybody. FWIW, the most recent test of a new CPU version off the Genefer app was set up for continuous testing in case anybody here wanted to try running up some hours. It's just GFN, it's just CPU, and it's only on GFN 16 thorough GFN 20. The preferences page lists all the projects, and while you can select other projects, these are the only active ones. I don't know how long the server will be left on, but it's on for now. Please let us know if something doesn't work! I have no knowledge regarding whether the hours will count here or not. ____________ Want to find one of the largest known primes? Try PrimeGrid. Or help cure disease at WCG.

I've switched on Compositegrid on a machine which has picked up a bunch of genefer tasks. Will let you know if there are any issues at all.

Sometimes the output in the task is good enough, but often we want *your* feedback, not just the app's. The app can't tell us if it's causing screen lag, for example. I already mentioned that in the original thread, but I can repeat that here: I still don't understand why you/resp. the new team let the project open to the "public" the whole time instead of using invitation code or something similar and only invite users who can provide feedback if you only want that. Isn't that possible? If not - probably because it's tied to PG somehow - just invent something to do so, that should be possible somehow... As a former ATA I would have liked to do testing, but because of several reasons too long to explain (and some were already mentioned) I for myself cut CompositeGrid off my list a long time ago. I don't do it anymore. It may change in the future but the whole thing needs to be cleared somehow first. I have no knowledge regarding whether the hours will count here or not. They are counted here, since over a year again I guess. The apps are all visible in the "New/intermittent apps"-thread - and if you check a few users here they do have hours of course. ____________ Life is Science, and Science rules. ...just invent something to do so, that should be possible somehow... The first step has already been made - only new versions of applications are available for testing from the whole list. If admin limit the active tasks to the CPU core and/or the daily quota - then the excessive load on the server from the "an mass" clients will be removed. (the usual situation for a new application - the client is scared typing tasks for a couple of months). And also the project has (almost) a stable list of applications. Only new versions are rare enough. This is not a Gaia project with new applications every day. Which ended before they appeared in statistics. ;) And for feedback, just define (leave) a couple of branches of the forum - announcements and reports. Now there is just a double of the main forum
