Hi, Team GRIDCOIN - I like the sound of the idea you guys are trying to use, but I have tried it on several occasions and it hasn't worked for me... Is there any way for you guys to get in touch with BOINC and see if you can fully integrate it in to the system (as in you download BOINC and then you can create a GRIDCOIN Wallet for payouts there)?

If you have any information, please let me know - thanks for your help,
From Chris.

Have you joined their team at the project(s) you wanted to get GRC for? That's a requirement, plus you have to meet or beat an average RAC in order to get coins.

Basically, it sounds like their website and forums would be a better place for you to research and ask questions.

No, I haven't, but nobody seems to know what to do on their forum - it's a bit confusing, but thanks for your help, noderaser

That's kind of why I have steered clear of it; even though it sounds like a good deal since I'm already doing lots of BOINC computation, it also sounds too good to be true--especially since they no longer require you to mine coins alongside the research. I understand that it's a speculative currency with no actual value (its value is held relative to more popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin) and unless someone accepts them as currency for goods or services, then they will never have much real value. The lack of information that they give about their workings is not encouraging.

It's likely that it will end up like the Ripple Labs XRP over at WCG; they'll stop giving them out after a while.

I'm the same, noderaser - it does sound too good to be true... I'm more about Bitcoins instead (because I know they are worth something)...

Team Gridcoin member here. IMO, I think keeping the Gridcoin & BOINC clients separate keeps things simple.

Have you joined their team at the project(s) you wanted to get GRC for? That's a requirement, plus you have to meet or beat an average RAC in order to get coins.

Basically, it sounds like their website and forums would be a better place for you to research and ask questions.

Yeah, Team Gridcoin membership is mandatory.
It's no longer the case that you need to bead an average RAC in order to get coins, the new formula is the following:

Project Magnitude = ((Your RAC/Team RAC)/Whitelist Num) * Neural Network Multiplier Total Magnitude = Sum of all Project Magnitudes

The above calculation basically means that you get rewarded based on your share of the total team RAC per project & all Whitelisted projects are taken into account.

With the 'avgmag' calculation, you could skew the magnitude calculation to manipulate magnitude. This was solved with the above new calculation.

DPOR (Distributed Proof of Research) no longer relies on centralised credit sources (netsoft was previously used), it now queries project servers directly for team stats to accurately track the stats.

We no longer rely on proof of work, only proof of stake - the more coins you have the more frequently you'll be able to access your earned Gridcoin (But does not affect how much GRC you earn from BOINC work). Your magnitude also has an impact on your stake weight.

EstimatedDaysUntilStake=(1/(UserBalance/NetworkCoinSupply))/960 CoinsRequired=(1/(days*960))*NetworkCoinSupply

It's not so much a case of intentionally not giving workings of the system, as it is the case that documentation is behind to a degree in the more complex areas - nothing's being kept secret, it's just a time thing. If you help out with documentation it would be very beneficial to the community.

Gridcoin is not like Ripple labs XRP over at WCG - There is no centralized issuing authority of Gridcoin. Distributed consensus determines who earns gridcoin and all nodes in the network verify work done via the Neural Network.

Gridcoin from now on issue 48,000 Gridcoin/day for BOINC computation from now until the end of time.

On a side note, WUPROP is whitelisted in the Gridcoin system, so running wuprop enables you to earn Gridcoin.

Team Gridcoin is currently #1 on Wuprop! :D

Hi folks,

WUProp current Gridcoin's whitelist status is: NOT whitelisted.

I suppose mainly because Gridcoin supports projects with SSL connections.

and for WUProp
SSL quality: Certificate mismatch (T)!! https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/analyze.html?d=wuprop.boinc-af.org

So unless this is picked up by WUPRop project I doubt Gridcoin users could earn coins from this project.

actually, no. it's because we found that some wuprop work units were prone to spoofing of cpu cycles, thereby increasing the reward for smaller work units.

SSL was voted as not being a requirement for whitelisting by the community. :D
