Created an account and password manager generated the typical 32 character PW and signed in. Seems normal.

Gerasim is the only Windows-based BOINC project I'm aware of. Everything about the website had to be ported from Linux to a Windows equivalent. As such, it's got a very different "look-and-feel" to it, and it's also a unique beast under the hood.

Gerasim Einstein are very similar, it took me a long time to figure out my way around both Projects ... It's not anything usual. Einstein didn't refuse to use my 32 character PW when trying to log back in or truncate it to 20 characters at the BOINC Mgr. Gerasim's PW reset mechanism is broken and I'm locked out and the admins aren't responding. I'll try sending the next requests in Russian. One more odd thing: Archive.Org hasn't been able to archive their forums since Nov 2018 and I can't see their forums, even from a proxy.

One more odd thing: Their forums appear to be broken, or at least inaccessible. ____________ Want to find one of the largest known primes? Try PrimeGrid. Or help cure disease at WCG.

Sent an IMTranslated English->Russian email and got this response: Hello! So he's politely telling me to go to a more modern BOINC project? One laptop (BOINC 7.8.3) is connected, although without an admin's help resetting my site password, I'll never be able to log in to change preferences. Maybe downgrading that laptop's BOINC version to 6.x.x would allow it to get some work. Is anyone else able to get WU's on BOINC 7.14.x?

So he's politely telling me to go to a more modern BOINC project? It sounds like he's telling you to set up your global preferences at a more modern project. Global preferences, being, well, global, are effective no matter which project you use to set them up. Unfortunately, that isn't going to fix your problem. It's entire possible something got lost in translation. You may be out of luck there. You're correct in thinking that you need Gerasim's admin's help to fix this. EDIT: I'm dubious that what he suggests will work, but maybe I'm wrong. You could try going to, say, Einstein, changing your global preferences on that site (aka "computing preferences" - not the "project preferences"), do an update on your computer, and then try to connect to Gerasim again. I don't think it will work, but that's what he suggested, so you might as well try it. Is anyone else able to get WU's on BOINC 7.14.x? Yes, I did. ____________ Want to find one of the largest known primes? Try PrimeGrid. Or help cure disease at WCG.

I used to get that error at a project that did not have the Default/Home/School/Work standard locations and my WCG global preferences was set to use one of them. Either deleting the global pref xml file on my PC or changing WCG to use the same locations would fix it. At least temporarily. PG has some other locations, is that your Global Pref project?

Either deleting the global pref xml file on my PC or changing WCG to use the same locations would fix it. At least temporarily. PG has some other locations, is that your Global Pref project? Looks like WCG (the project that revels in being the most non-standard BOINC project...) wrote the latest local global_prefs.xml on this laptop connected to Gerasim. source_project>http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/</source_project> Renamed that file to global_prefs.xml.wgc, told BOINC to reload config files then pressed update on Gerasim. Newly created global_prefs.xml file reads: <source_project>http://gerasim.boinc.ru/</source_project> AND the project d/led work!!!! It's even is going to the correct CPID! http://gerasim.boinc.ru/users/viewResults.aspx?userid=14122 It sounds like he's telling you to set up your global preferences at a more modern project. .<snip>. It's entire possible something got lost in translation. So, it seems, what was mistranslated was that I should delete the global prefs created by a more modern project and let Gerasim create the new global prefs. Because, essentially, that is all I did. Thanks to both of you for the clues to get this working. I'll probably never be able to log back in or change preferences server side, but might just get 100 hours on their 4 WU's. EDIT: Looks like I did adjust preferences there initially because the project resource share is set to 0 for minimal work d/l. Always handy for some project like nanoHUB that sent 1200+ WU's down at default resource 100.

Yes, WCG and gerasim have incompatible global preferences. Don't run them at the same time, and better yet, unsubscribe from one before adding the other. And always clean your global preferences from a neutral project in between. A minor change to the global preferences at that neutral site, such as going from 1 day to 1.1 day of work will be sufficient.
