Well, WUProp only reports in every 6 hours. My logic might be off, but if you wanted to absolutely check, start WUProp at the same time on each server and then after 24 hours, check the report.

Incidentally, NCI doesn't always give you all 4 WUs. Sometimes it misses one or two. I don't know if it's just an instance or within a certain timeframe it happens. But times that 1 or 2 by a bunch of machines...

Apparently you don't follow the project as the project hasn't had a history of stability. GCC went down last year due to hardware failures and GoofyX has been trying to get things working again coupled with being hospitalized over the holidays. I think GCC is on hold till be can get NCI and CPU stable. Then he wants to combine them under one banner, but separate projects (like yoyo@home). Then maybe then GCC might make a return...but he hasn't said last I saw.

But, all that's mostly really beyond the scope of the original intent of this thread... :)

Please tell me what "science" Grid Computing Center/Goofyx is doing?

Trying to find out if a monkey can type "Christmas" (app V2/V4) and how long it will take? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Infinite_monkey_theorem

When we reach an infinite number of monkeys, we'll know. ;)

'Science' has always been objective. Fool's errands exist until something new is discovered, then suddenly it's a new field of study.

Is there a way to get the GPU credits in general by project?

If not available here, does anyone have a resource for this?

Thanks,

Is it possible to have the project name in the New / Intermittent applications an URL. Sometimes we just can't figure out what some of these projects are... such an example:

The application Virtual Machine for VASP (protected edition) from project prediction is active

What's this 'prediction' project anyways, you know?

Thanks

(for each of Linux, Mac, and Windows there might be one each of a 32 bit CPU, a 64 bit CPU, an Nvidia GPU, and an AMD GPU app version.) Over the life of an application, as the software evolves and is updated, there may be hundreds of app_versions, although most will be deprecated and no longer in use.

I was thinking on it and understand a Windows client is doing the same thing as the Mac client as the Linux client... But I wonder (and I'm relatively new on it) is GPU clients. I've seen where it's the same app but does a deeper analysis or crunches mores #s (so to speak). Is that part of the same app or is it a different app?

Offhand, without delving into each project, I can't speak as to how they're listed or how any GPU clients may differ...

I just found out shortly ago completely by accident when I went on Free-DC and wondering what this Stop@Home project was doing on my list.

How the heck are you suppose to know the URL changed unless you find a post someplace or stumble across like I did??

Then there's all those clients out there trying to hit the old URL...

What distinguishes an "application" from a "version"?

Sofar, it only seems if a project lists an application separately which seems kind of hazy in defining it...

Amicable - OpenCL beta test

For nVidia and AMD

Requires 1gb video ram.
12) Message boards : Number crunching : World Community Grid Beta (Message 4725)

I tried to google a bit and found many medical-related terms which contains word beta. Here are few examples: beta hcg, beta alanine, beta carotene, beta blockers, beta endorphins, beta glucan. So this is not so easy, any of these names may be part of non-beta WCG project name. Automatic classification would not work here.

Hence why I said specifically a script >FOR WCG<, e.g. it only triggers if there's work reported from running WCG.

Else next time it could be 'Beta Testing' and we would have a 3rd listing for the same thing.

Incidentally, DuChamp released a new app version but fortunately it's dumping into the existing entry instead of starting all over. Got a new star, yea. :)

Got lucky and missed on the first W10 Fubar Update.

Then I got hit twice on the 2nd too. Was really annoying because I just got things fixed and then M$ did it again. First level tech tried hard to fix it but had to escalate it. The escalated tech was mucking around my system installing old drivers and such... I was going WTF? I'm glad I came back to check. I was like Heck No... my drivers were just fine until you went installing old drivers from Dell.

The only good thing out all that was I found about the Refresh/Reset ability although I had to boot off a flash drive to get things fixed. It was a pain and I lost a couple more days (with having to reinstall programs) but I got it fixed without a tech mucking around with my device drivers, although I did discover this computer has GPS capability...so it's like the old Microsoft joke:

A helicopter was flying around above Seattle when an electrical malfunction disabled all of the aircraft's electronic navigation and communications qquipment. Due to the clouds and haze, the pilot could not determine the helicopter's position and course to fly to the airport. The pilot saw a tall building, flew toward it, circled, drew a handwritten sign, and held it in the helicopter's window. The pilot's sign said "WHERE AM I?" in large letters. People in the tall building quickly responded to the aircraft, drew a large sign and held it in a building window. Their sign read: "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER." The pilot smiled, waved, looked at her map, determined the course to steer to SEATAC airport, and landed safely. After they were on the ground, the co-pilot asked the pilot how the "YOU ARE IN A HELICOPTER" sign helped determine their position. The pilot responded "I knew that had to be the Microsoft building because, like their technical support, online help and product documentation, the response they gave me was technically correct, but completely useless."

So technically the tech fixed something but it was absolutely useless. ;)

Thanks. The search function is no Google so it doesn't know I wanted World Community Grid when I typed in WCG. :)

Couldn't it just be scripted in that any app 'Beta' from WCG just gets dumped into the same field in the database?

I think it's actually more inconsistency in naming on their end than any one beta app is to a specific beta name. It seems anything Beta is just called Beta work rather than a specific Beta project. It's quite possible you could get beta for a project that previously had beta but the only difference is the inconsistent naming.

The only real load on the server would be a one-off merging of all existing records. After that, beta releases are infrequent and rather limited. Short of all the WUs bombing out the load should be negligible (and that's no different than other new app/work, WCG or otherwise, bombing out.

Besides, a rose by any other name is still a rose...

Just my two-pence of thoughts. ~Y

Would like to offer a humble suggestion/request of merging the 'WCG Beta Test' into the 'WCG Beta' as they both refer to the same thing.

'WCG Beta' seems to be what they are calling it now.

You forgot about Pirates@Home http://pirates.spy-hill.net/ :) Unfortunately they do not allow to create new accounts now.

They don't actually do anything there anymore. Use to be a test site for Einstein@home and then they launched the full site and a beta site (Albert). For a whiles they use to run various different things, but it's pretty much inactive now. Last news update was 2010...

Before jumping on a new project, look through the site especially the server status and the forum to see if there's actually something actively going on. There's a lot of these ghost projects popping out of Russia that go dark or just fade away. Seems there's a lot of experimentation with the institutes over there.

Also, there's the BOINC test project but I can't remember where the URL is.

BOINC Test Project

The Test Project isn't used anymore. Actually, hasn't been used in a long time. :)

For Alpha, if you're interested in testing, here's the official page for that:

http://isaac.ssl.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/AlphaInstructions

There's actually nothing running there either.

There's a Google mailing list you can join and participate in. No special invitation is needed.

Suggest you turn off write caching on both disks & indexing on the HDD.

Just curious why is that? SSD I understand, but why the 1 TB?
