Conan

How observant a person is .. is subject to the perspective point used.

You are pretty good !

Yes Conan is isn't he!!

As for me I'm partially color blind with very little color memory so when they change I can't tell until we get the new list and Conan tells me what's changed for me.

Upgrade Time

My 6th Star has turned BLUE

My 18th Star changed to SILVER (if anyone can't see this it is SILVER)

>>>>

140 Applications now past 5000 Hours
360 Applications now past 250 Hours

Colour changes are a slow process but great when it happens.

Onward with the fun.

Posted 7 days ago by mikey
In the past, when the server isn't analyzing tasks the number on the server status page fluctuates from zero to it's backlog count from one page refresh to refresh so it's not always visible.

There is also the best participants page where you can see if at least someone else is receiving hours for a given app. When I posted before, someone (Anonymous user) had 15k hours for Rosetta beta.

You have bookmarks of all the best pages!!!

This is probably a good thing but I couldn't follow the instructions and I can't watch the instruction video on my Linux machine.

Most of the links are crossed out, so not sure where to go after that.

I have till May to work it out I think so I will try again later.

Conan

Seems I only have till this Sunday to vote, so I had better try and work out their web page for voting.

Conan

PS; worked it out and have now registered my vote.

8) Message boards : Number crunching : GPU suggestions? (Message 10525)
Posted 8 Mar 2024 by mikey
You're 1050Ti with 4GB is about 50/50 pass/fail so I wouldn't say 3GB is enough.

GPUGrid is NV only.

Thank you I had not noticed!! It's probably a pc problem and I will look into swapping one around today.
9) Message boards : Number crunching : GPU suggestions? (Message 10522)

My expenditures went into CPU cores last winter and this winter other expenses are taking my BOINC hardware budget.
SiDock suggested they might start working on protein models of a Corona virus, that has not jumped to humans yet, that is causing havoc in pig farming; deaths to extreme diarrhea.
So I'm content with the CPU cores path (also the efficiency of GPU's has some projects years ahead in data and shutting down some GPU WU's).

Please offer me a suggestion for the lowest cost NVidia card that can actually run these as my 1060 only has 3GB. It seems 8GB VRAM might not be enough, IDK.

My https://stats.free-dc.org/newapps/131629/100
GPUGRID ATM: Free energy calculations of protein-ligand binding 0.00 347.98
GPUGRID Quantum chemistry calculations on GPU 0.00 394.30

Do a project reset to get the newest apps for gpugrid that can run some of their tasks on gpu's with less memory, my 3gb gpu's are now running most of their tasks again.

If you trust aliexpress or temu they both have AMD 580 8gb gpu's in the $70US and below range. Aliexpress is selling Nviida p4-104 former mining gpu's with NO video output for $65US, I have one and it works great but I did put a 2nd 1gb gpu in the pc for the video output and then had to exclude it from all the gpu projects so it didn't any tasks. BOTH alixespress and temu ship mostly from China and it takes about a month to get to you. SOME people have had problems with them but I have not had any so far and I've ordered over half a dozen things from each one. My last purchase was a thing so I could plug in my hardwired internet into my firestick, I had no clue you could even do that until it just popped up one time!! BOTH sites are TERRIBLE at sorting so you have to do alot of scolling to see exactly what you are looking for.

13) Message boards : Number crunching : Bug in logic (Message 10497)
Posted 25 Feb 2024 by mikey
So there needs to be logic in it, if there are known workload in a task and then no workload, the task should end as normal on the 1 hour mark and report the less than 1 hour of work it had obtained.

Actually it could end instantly when the computer runs out of other work and the credits could be adjusted to the time it has run (just like they are adjusted when BOINC is running with disabled network for some time and the task runs longer).

Than, if the user didn't suspend work fetch from WUProp, the next task could have a limit of 24-72 hours (or simply the deadline if possible) if running without other work.

I've noticed it as well so now I run short gpu tasks until the wuprop task gets sent back then I stop the gpu tasks and shut down the pc.

What happened to WCG, can't get any work from them for my Androids.

My pc's say "server error, feeder not running", fortunately my cache still has some tasks but I will get and retun a bunch when they come back to work today Monday. The Tech people do not work on weekends.

A few years ago, I introduced a limitation on multiple clients for same host. Users was complaining about this. So I removed it.
Look what's happening when there are no limitations.

This limitations should come back, there's no reason to run more than one instance of a serious NCI application. NCI is monitoring something, no reason to monitor same thing hundreds of times. If it makes any sense to run an NCI application more than once at a time, it's up to the project admins to set up a reasonable amount of applications.

Ithena Measurements often sends several NCI tasks if you have them checked, so it kinda depends on what the preferences are at each Project that has them, generally I agree with you though.
