1) Message boards : Science : PowerPC Disappeared? (Message 5926)
Posted 21 Jan 2018 by noderaser
I haven't noticed any results reported from MacOS PowerPC in quite a while, however looking at the applications page at a few of the projects that are known to support that architecture (SETI, Enigma, Moo! Wrapper) show that there is work being done.

Just to check that the app is still functional, I dug out my old PowerBook G4 and let it run through a few Moo! tasks and two full wuprop tasks to generate some results. I have two completed wuprop tasks (which only seem to take three hours, as compared to the typical six) but when I click on the "Activity" button for the host, I get nothing. And, there is still nothing listed on the Results page.

As a side note, anyone using the older PowerPC clients (BOINC 6.12.35 or 6.6.36) will have to attach the project manually, since those clients don't support https--and at least BAM! uses the https address to attach.

Anyway, just wanted to bring this up and see if there's something holding up the PowerPC results on the server side. I often pitch the wuprop results on various other forums, for people looking to find projects that work for a particular architecture, gpu, etc. and the project has historically been a good way to find work for PowerPC. I hope that it can continue to be so, especially as there are only a handful of projects that support those hosts anymore. In general, I find wuprop to be a very useful tool for this purpose and I'm happy to contribute data to help out.
2) Message boards : Science : Adjust Deadline or WU Length? (Message 5637)

Another "wish list" item; can you make a section in the results page for ARM devices like the GPU section? Specifically, I use (and encourage others to use) the GPU tool to find projects that function on a particular GPU. It would be really cool to be able to do the same thing with ARM devices, since there seems to be a lot of variability in computing capability just like GPUs.

Any chance that the deadline or WU length could be adjusted? I have a few older computers that might yield some important data on projects for my fellow budget crunchers, but I use them less than six hours a week and their data doesn't get contributed.

I guess there's just not much to talk about; for the most part everything runs like it should.

How would you know the missing hours came from a particular machine? Does the machine you're talking about show up in your hosts list?
6) Message boards : Cafe : Anyone from GRIDCOIN? (Message 2885)
Posted 31 Mar 2015 by noderaser
That's kind of why I have steered clear of it; even though it sounds like a good deal since I'm already doing lots of BOINC computation, it also sounds too good to be true--especially since they no longer require you to mine coins alongside the research. I understand that it's a speculative currency with no actual value (its value is held relative to more popular cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin) and unless someone accepts them as currency for goods or services, then they will never have much real value. The lack of information that they give about their workings is not encouraging.

It's likely that it will end up like the Ripple Labs XRP over at WCG; they'll stop giving them out after a while.

Have you joined their team at the project(s) you wanted to get GRC for? That's a requirement, plus you have to meet or beat an average RAC in order to get coins.

Basically, it sounds like their website and forums would be a better place for you to research and ask questions.
8) Message boards : Number crunching : Intel® iGPU app detection? (Message 2768)
Posted 18 Mar 2015 by noderaser
I notice that the results page only lists GPUs that are ATI/AMD or nVidia... So perhaps it's just a limitation of the app at this time?

I also have a lower-grade integrated Intel HD GPU (Atom) in my tablet, though I typically don't use it because getting it to charge while crunching BOINC is an uphill (sometimes nearly impossible) battle.
9) Message boards : Number crunching : What is this "inactive for 30 days or more" icon? (Message 2385)
Posted 26 Sep 2014 by noderaser
They also don't seem to be terribly accurate. Why not just add a column for the activity on each project within the last 30 days?

Have a look at this thread:

Is this happening continually, or do you just have a "stuck" task? Try aborting and getting a new task. If that doesn't do it, you could also try a project reset.
12) Message boards : Number crunching : Continuous high CPU usage of WUProp task (Message 2314)
Posted 3 Aug 2014 by noderaser
Is it the same task, or are multiple tasks showing this behavior? It sounds like you just may have a task with some funky error; you could try aborting it and see if successive tasks have the same problem.

I second this, as both new and old "Solo" Collatz already show up as the same application, though with the old name "solo_collatz" and not "Solo Collatz Conjecture".

15) Message boards : Number crunching : Stop spaming me with "Bad gpu detection" messages ! (Message 2208)
Posted 14 May 2014 by noderaser
You might just have to ignore it, I still got that message on one of my hosts with an "unknown" CPU, even though I followed the link and correctly identified it.
16) Message boards : Number crunching : Multiple GPU's in one box work on same work unit. (Message 2197)
Posted 8 May 2014 by noderaser
I thought the tasks of most projects would error out if they were transported between different systems--say, on a Linux USB key?
17) Message boards : Number crunching : Android 4.4.2 (Message 2188)

However I was using NativeBOINC because the Berkeley version didn't work with WUProp and didn't see a NativeBOINC update.

I've been using the official BOINC with WUprop since last June...
18) Message boards : Science : GPU doesn't show in Results (Message 2171)

Does anyone know how often the data is refreshed on the results page, and how long it takes before data is "old" and no longer presented?
19) Message boards : Number crunching : mult clients (Message 2039)
Posted 2 Mar 2014 by noderaser
Hmm, ok... I guess if that's the way you want to run it. I've never really had any problems running multiple WUs within BOINC, the max I've got is 6 (4 CPU, 1 GPU, 1 NCI) on one host. I manage the heat on systems where that's a problem without any incident.

What's the reason for using one project per client?
