Hallo forum,

I have this long running WU: http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/workunit.php?wuid=10539402.
I read somewhere that the normal run time for a WUProp WU is about 3 hrs.
This WU is now running for 9:15h, the remaining time is sitting at 1 min. already for some hours, and the progress indicator is at 99.818% and slowly increasing.
The deadline is on 18-02-2011, so I'm not really worried about missing this.
However, has someone seen this behavior before, and should I leave it running?

Thanks for any advise,
Ruud

Hi again,

The WU finished after 37,540 sec (about 10h 25m), but was marked as invalid, and not granted credits.
Why it was invalid, I don't know.

I found another WU for this same computer that had run for 27,614 sec (7h 40m), and was also marked invalid.

Regards,
Ruud

Got another one: http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/workunit.php?wuid=10565373.
Running for 8h 30m now, at 99.803%, and time remaining sits at 1:00min.
Maybe I should start to reboot this computer. See if that helps.

Regards,
Ruud

Did you suspend the BOINC network activity.
If network activity is suspended, the workunit will run until network activity is resumed.

No, both activities are on based on preferences, but in practice all tasks are running all the time.
What did help (to solve this last particular problem) was to exit BOINC manager altogether and stop running applications. After I had started BOINC manager again (with all applications), the WU was immediately finished, and a new one started.

I updated application for windows.
The new version should correct the problem.

Why are the tasks getting longer?

I keep getting tasks that take much more than 3 hours to complete. My solution is to reset the project, then the next WU is 3 hours.

WUs with longer running time give also accordingly more credit.

I think you will find that only applies if the network Activity has been suspended and WUProp will keep running till Network Activity is resumed.

Vaughan has not mentioned a Network issue, just that the work units run far longer than the 3 hours they are supposed to run.

If they run too long they not get credit as they will be deemed to be invalid.

I have had that issue in the past and got nothing for many hours of work as it took far longer than the server said it should.
