I am getting a lot of computation errors on Linux lately. All machines on which I have observed the problem have been running well for several years. None of my other projects has problems on those machines. Is anyone else seeing the same problem ? |

Yes, more lately on Linux boxes and I just got another one after 2 hours or so... WUProp@Home 3.42 Data collect version 3 (nci) wu_v3_1363211664_100469_0 02:03:52 (00:00:14) 3/16/2013 6:49:51 AM 3/16/2013 6:52:35 AM 0.19 Reported: Computation error (11,) Linux-F1 It used to be that WUProp on Linux would crash whenever some other program clogged the network... or something like that... and it would kill all the tasks on all the Linux boxes at the same time... that problem seems to have been mostly fixed. 8-) |

I get the same thing on my Linux Box's & attribute to the lousy Wireless Connections the 3 Box's have, just had this WUProp Wu on Error out taking 152 Hr's of SLinCA Wu's with it, it was on the same Box that I reported the Pending Credits were way off in another Thread a few Hr's ago & now it crashes the whole shebang ... 25210530 24798717 49301 17 Mar 2013 8:06:40 UTC 17 Mar 2013 9:37:41 UTC Error while computing 5,280.57 3.39 --- Data collect version 3 v3.42 (nci) Happened to the same Box either yesterday or the day before, will have to wait 3 Hr's now to see if I at least get the Hourly Credit here at WUP because I won't get any ay SLinCA because the Wu's reported back as Computation Error's. I did get a New WUP Wu Downloaded & running before the SLinCA Wu's reported back to SLinCA, the same thing happened the other day I did get Hourly Credit here for the Erred Wu's anyway so wasn't a total loss anyway ... :) Think I'll take the time to reinstall Linux on that Box since it happens to mess up way to often for some reason ... https://signature.statseb.fr/sig-1323.png https://stats.free-dc.org/badgesbanner.php?cpid=13a87c3a303bcdca4ba0ed600daebb6b |

Early this morning, all eight of my Linux boxes crashed taking out several tasks in progress and locking up the network. It is definitely something that has to do with internet interruptions. The cable service I have goes out once in a while late at night for maintenance, or else just dies... When the internet connection is lost, WUProp goes nuts, locks up BOINC and then I observed tasks starting and stopping... Nothing else could run until the net came back up, then every box had a WUProp computation error and also many crashed WU's from projects. It didn't matter if the box was on the LAN or wireless and only happened on Linux systems, not the Windows 7 boxes... This is very annoying... has been happening less often with the last update, but early this morning it really clobbered everything badly. |

Early this morning, all eight of my Linux boxes crashed taking out several tasks in progress and locking up the network. I get the same thing but things have improved since I bought a new Router. 16 of my Box's are Wireless & 5 are Linux Box's. Seems the only Box's affected by a Internet Interruption is the 5 Linux Box's. I can't say one way or the other though that it's the Wu'sProp Wu that's causing all the problems. All I know is I've lost Hundreds & Hundreds of Hr's here at WuProp because of the different Project Wu Lockups & WUProp Wu Error's. I get the constant restarting of Wu's too when it happens. Since I put the new Router on place I've only had 1 time things got messed up on one Box but did get the Hr Credits here at WUP. I've learned to wait a little bit when things get locked up on Linux & so far things have unlocked themselves after a min or 2 & I've then been able to report any finished Wu's ... https://signature.statseb.fr/sig-1323.png https://stats.free-dc.org/badgesbanner.php?cpid=13a87c3a303bcdca4ba0ed600daebb6b |

Well, I also bought a new router recently to test that, an Asus RT-N66U and it hasn't helped either. My friend put DD-WRT on my other Linksys router and that didn't help. Also, I have 4 boxes on wired LAN and the rest on WiFi and it makes no difference where they are, all Linux boxes mess up. Someone suggested I try to upgrade the Kernal in my boxes since they all run Ubuntu 11.10... I may try that and try to upgrade the version of BOINC client too.. 8-) |

Came across this problem over a year ago on Ubuntu 11.04 and Ubuntu 11.10. Thought it was more to do with Boinc & Linux than the WU's as it killed WU's from many different projects (running completely different app types). Changing my network (isolated the Linux systems with an Layer 2/3 switch) also helped, but only so much; didn't get lots of immediate errors, but got a few after long outages. If these are business rigs do as little as possible. Upgrading Boinc might work and would be much easier than upgrading Linux. If it doesn't work then see what networking upgrades there are for 11.10. If you must upgrade the Kernel then I would recommend 12.04 as opposed to 12.10 - 12.04 has LTS and 12.10 can be a pain, especially trying to upgrade. Good luck, |

I've been trying to find a stable later version Linux to substitute for Ubuntu that works... no joy so far. 100% of the time, I try to install/run BOINC in the /Home directory and every time I run it I get some sort of library error... This morning I tried Fubuntu (which I sorta like though it's bloated), added the wxwidgets libs and such and still get more missing library errors.. I've tried for weeks to get ONE 7.0.28 BOINC Linux version running on some flavor of Linux (25 of them?), following tons of web instructions, error fixes etc. with ZERO luck. The ONLY thing I've ever been able to run is Ubuntu 11.10... And people wonder why folks don't LOVE Linux.. Sheesh... 8-) |
