It turns out that the universe boinc server is broken when it comes to the non-default locations. Even if you have (say) school set up with different preferences, and you then assign machines to school, it still uses the default setting preferences. So I was getting the wrong tasks. It obviously is a new project and I've not yet heard of it anywhere. I've already searched for it but couldn't yet find it and here on WUProp there is no URL linked with it.
