Now that I've reached the Max of 5 Sapphire Stars could we get some word from the Admin of the WUProp Project if there are any plans to either increase the amount of Stars or increase the amount of Credit say to 10,0000 as an example for another Colored Star.

Another Star Set could be started too with the Credit amounts now set, I already have enough App's for a Ruby & Silver Star above the 5 Sapphire I have now ... Thanks

I'm searching how I could add new badges.
A solution could be to increase badges size, so I could add more stars.
For example
:
20 apps || 40 apps || 60 apps || 80 apps || 100 apps | 120 apps | 140 apps | 160 apps | 180 apps

I could also increase credits amounts like this:

100 hours
250 hours
500 hours
1,000 hours
2,500 hours
5,000 hours
10,000 hours
25,000 hours
50,000 hours
100,000 hours
250,000 hours

I like the Increased Credit Amount, 250,000 Hr's on 20 App's would be a Monumental Achievement ... IMO

Just increasing the App amounts 120 apps | 140 apps | 160 apps | 180 apps wouldn't be that hard to achieve, it only took me less than 6 Month's to reach the 5 Sapphire. Also I have 170 App's now already but many of them it's hard to get even 100 Hr's on because the Projects jump from App to App.

By increasing the Credit Amounts one could whittle away on them for years to come ... :)

Why not implement them both. That would appeal to those on both sides of the upgrade fence. Just don't make the badges too big or it will ruin a lot of signatures.

I like the idea of both as well. I might eventually reach 5+ stars as I run lots of projects but also would have the chance to increase at least one star past sapphire working on my favorite projects.

Could you render one of the new 9 star badges with a mix of old and new stars so we can see how the background circles look in the badge.

As for size it looks like the new 9 star badge would take about as much space as the gpugrid badges.

Same here, for all of this sentence.
I'd probably never get to even one sapphire star, or 5 stars, but I like the possibility and the challenge for those mega crunchers like STE\/e, Zombie e.a.

Both the app count and levels should be increased, and substantially to future proof the system.

The problem with just adding more stars is that it gets dense/cluttered and you would eventually run out of space no matter what you do.
You could use one badge/icon that changes, a rotating badge - shows the first 5 or 9 stars, then the next set of up to 5, or 9 stars... That way one badge would do indefinitely.
Just an example of what I mean by a rotating badge,

I'm not overly keen on stars though - it's too much like being in primary school and somewhat unimaginative.
If you wanted a celestial theme, you could start with a meteorite, comet, and some phases of the moon, for the first 5 non-stars, and then do the terrestrial planets and different types of star for example:

Replace the first star with a Meteorite, the second with a comet, third with a Black Moon, Fourth with a half moon and fifth with a full-moon.

For the second set of up to 5 non-stars,
Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, lunar eclipse

For the third set of up to 5 stars,
Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and our Sun

After that,
White Dwarf, Red Giant, black hole, supernova, hyper-nova.

Perhaps too complex and involved, but you might want to consider a completely different approach to all of this, and group projects based their classification. Boinc describes projects as,
Astronomy, Physics, Chemistry,, Biology and Medicine,, Cognitive Science and Artificial Intelligence,, Distributed sensing,, Earth Science,, Mathematics, Computing,, Multiple applications.
Some of these groups have numerous projects and even more apps, while some only have 1 or 2 projects. So you would have to redefine the projects apps and group them according to what you think they fall into, making sure there are at least 20apps per group.
The ‘multiple applications’ group would need to have all their apps directed to the appropriate field. If this sounds interesting, I would suggest 5 groups (for the present star system), and when there is overflow add it to another star which can be rotated/scrolled to.

I think 100x 250000 hours = (2853 years) of computing time are enough.

That's right, but there's as well the possibility of 180x 1000h = 20years, so more diversity in apps, imho that's fine to acknowledge as well.

Just one 8 threaded CPU running for a year can do 70,000h of work. Spread that out into 20*100h and that's 35 stars, or 7 badges:

Many crunchers have several computers with many CPU cores/threads and GPU's. So in theory they could have hundreds of stars within a year. Even 3 computers could push the theoretical number of stars over 100 and the number of badges over 20. The limiting factor is the number of available apps, but that's never going to go backwards and if this project survives the years some crunchers could have thousands of stars and hundreds of badges.

For the long run, a badge more like a 5x5 rubix cube might be in order, with each small square representing 20apps,

Don't forget the different colors of the stars.
blue star = 20x 5,000h = 1.43 years on a 8 threaded cpu.
blue-green star = 20x 250,000h = 71,34 years on a 8 threaded cpu.

I'm running 7 hosts 24/7 and just got this .
Most people just use 1 computer with 2 or 4 threads and only some hours a day.

And a badge should be small and fit into signature pics, so adding dozens of stars like your cube isn't the best option.

Extending the number of stars to 180 will force people to crunch more alpha- and beta-projects. Because most of my machines are productive, it's not a good idea to run projects which are (sometimes) unstable and might cause problems.

With the ability to run about 50 threads I'm somewhere in the middle between powercrunchers like STEVE and the majority running 1 or 2 hosts.
For 250,000h x 100 I would have to wait for my 103. birthday to get a full pull.
And I think you don't have to animate people like STEVE and me, because we're already hooked on crunching. ;-)

I would prefer to extend hours to 10,000 and 25,000. This can easily be done with two more colors (e.g. black, mint, neon, etc.).

In a few years you can proof, if you need to adjust the badges again to fit the state of technology.

I just wish the Admin would give us an Indication on which way they intend to go so I know which way to go. Right now I'm just crunching aimlessly with know way of knowing what to do.

It doesn't matter to me which way they go just let us know so we know which way to go ...

I won't add more stars. I will just increase Hours amount.
Probably, 10,000 - 25,000 - 50,000 and 100,000 hours.

Changing the game in the middle is annoying, especially when you already gained stars then get automatically rolled back to maybe nothing if you do not have enough time in.
