Some members of the team L'Alliance Francophone are thinking about the creation of a new annual ranking : the Rush BOINC . What is the principle of the Rush BOINC ? At the end of the year 2013, a list of eligible projects will be defined. This list should count about sixty projects. Each participating team must perform 20-25 rushes over three consecutive days on 20-25 different projects in this list . ( The number of rush is not yet fixed ) . Each rush may be tempted three times. Only the best performance will be selected. The team will choose the dates of rushes . It should just declare at least 24 hours before the start . For each project, on December 31 at 23:59 UTC , the teams will be ranked according to the number of points generated during these three days . The first 10 teams will get Rush BOINC point . The distribution of RB points is identical to the Formula 1 : 25/18/15/12/10/8/6/4/2/1 . The general Rush Boinc ranking will be simply obtained by adding all RB points of each team.. To give more visibility to less powerful teams , we plan to create three leagues according the teams average production in December. A super- league will aggregate all teams. Super Division : All teams League 1: average production > 10,000,000 by day League 2 : 1,000,000 What's your opinion on this idea? We need to know if several teams would be interested to participate in this competition. |

The proposal is too inflexible and too time consuming. It seems to favor large teams over smaller ones. It adds a layer of organization and timing that is completely unnecessary for achieving the goals of distributed computing. |

Also, only 6 teams seem to be actively pursuing Formula BOINC "trophies" under rules that require far less planning and regimentation to succeed. The proposal, requiring about two 3-day rushes per month, repeated up to 3 times, completely disrupts the achievement individual crunching goals, and it will make FB completely irrelevant and ignored. |

Repeat a rush is facultative. 20 rushes equals only 60 days in the year. In addition, a team can align a rush with a challenge in which it participates. |

My team uses two different team names across the BOINC world and finds Formula BOINC to not adjust accordingly. When I asked about ways to resolve this nothing happened. So, I agree that it seems only a small hand full of teams actually participate there. DC Vault has many teams and can track teams that have multiple names but have little activity within their forums. I don't see this concept being much different. |

20-25 * 3 days * 3 tries = 180 - 225 days But you can't read out of the stat.xml when the WU which gave the points was created right? If the deadline of the project is 14 day I can crunch 14 days and submit all results in the last 3 days, so the one gets the points who crunched more then 3 days. 20-25 * 14 days * 3 tries = 840 - 1050 days So I think this useless unless only WUs created in that 3 days will count. |
