Being this is a project that works for all the projects, this would be a great place to ask this question. If you were looking to buy an Android tablet today, which one would you choose and why? One thing I noticed when I got my Galaxy S3 a while ago, is that the International versions have a quad-core processor, while the US version is only dual-core. Nexus 7. Easily the best value for money in terms of performance, as well as being a reliably well-manufactured product. |

Suppose I should also state I am looking for a large tablet. The Nexus 10 has a very bad review about "The included charger isn't fast enough to power the battery while playing a game; even while idle, it charges painfully slowly. There's no storage expansion option." For crunching this would not work. Also not allowing for extra storage is a real downer. I found out friends have the Samsung series of tablets and love them. I am now looking at the new Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition. Reviews for this are nice and uses a normal micro-USB connect for chargers, which is the same as several other devices we have, so no buying extra chargers. Also has great reviews. Anyone experience this device, yet? |

My wife got one of these for X-mas: http://www.walmart.com/ip/TRIO-Stealth-G2-10.1-Tablet-Dual-Core-with-16GB-Memory/26973760 and it is garbage. No wonder MachSpeed doesn't put their name on the product. If I would have known in advance that it was one of their products, I wouldn't have bothered. It failed in less than a month of usage and we were only able to exchange it. She got this in exchange: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Nextbook-8-Dual-Core-Tablet-with-8GB-Memory/23554123 which should be relatively the same speed. The Nextbook works night and day better and the battery is significantly better as well. I know those are considered bottom rung tablets, but they are good enough for her Facebooking and YouTubing. As far as the Galaxy S3 having different amount of cores in the US vs. Europe, more cores isn't always better. I have been running a Nexus 7 [Quad Core, ARMv7 Processor rev 9 (v7l) @1300MHz] tablet on BOINC using NativeBoinc for almost a month now. Here's a link to my host on WuProp and on BOINCstats. I got mine on eBay as a refurbished unit for about $100 and especially pleased with the performance on theSkyNet POGS.
