I have seen no news for this so I opened a thread. With the reduction in run times from 24 Hours to 12 Hours, the amount awarded per WU has been halved from 50 to 25. This maintains a credit per hour amount of about 2. I looked at FreeHal which is also memory intensive and it gives 15 credits for 2 hours work, or 7.5 credits per hour. So per Wu, with WUproj I will get 50 credits over 24 hours. With FreeHal I will get 180 credits in 24 hours. Leaving the points at 50 to me did not seem a problem as the awarded points were already very low. At 50 the points per hour was about 4. Just a point of view. Still an interesting project just the same. |

I agree Conan. Always hate to see credit go down, but from my point of view, I would almost pay credit for the info this project provides. I am not saavy enough to compile this info on my own. BTW: thanks for this post. hadn't realized the wu length had changed and was about to abort some valid units. Upon further review however, credit will still be 50/day just 2 workunits instead of one. To me this is actully a good thing in case of a bad workunit--only half the daily credit will be lost. Hope the server can handle twice the traffic! |

I looked at FreeHal which is also memory intensive and it gives 15 credits for 2 hours work, or 7.5 credits per hour. I suppose by "memory intensive" you mean "not CPU intensive". According to WUProp's measurements, FreeHAL needs about 60MB of RAM on average. WUProp needs only 1 or 2 MB. I also think FreeHAL does more I/O in Filesystem and Memory, but that information isn't at first-hand. My opinion is that you (still) get 50 credits per day for nearly nothing. That's a good deal for everyone I think. |

Credits per day are the same as QCN. I think it is adequate. |

I have a WU that has been running for 92 hours. I am concerned that if I stop it now, I have wasted all those hours. As it is, 92 hours equates to $15.00 of Electricity cost for me. If I only get 50 points for this, Is it worth crunching? |

If I only get 50 points for this, Is it worth crunching? Yes ... It is "free" in that the load on your CPU is nil ... so, though it "runs" for 12 hours, it uses only seconds of CPU in that entire period ... Over time I hope the data collection and analysis improves to the point where some real utility comes out of this project ... but, gathering the data is key ... |
