Team member Astur has asked that you Got this in my email today. Astur links to this team: http://asturias-team-boinc.blogspot.com/ and has zero credits. Wasn't even aware he joined the team. Your thoughts? |

He joined the team today 7:30 UTC and he quit the team 27 minutes later. Probably it was an error. |

I'm reviving this older thread... Probably it was an error. This would not necessarily have to be an error. Some 2.5 years ago there was a quite large BOINC-wide affair - one team was sampling apparently dead (because inactive) but "rich" teams, joining them with some new anonymous user with zero credit (in order to be not tracked in future by stats sites), requesting and later obtaining their ownership after the required timeout, and finally renaming them to match their own team name and throwing away the (mis)user and remaining former inactive users. You can imagine their jump in stats during just a few months... (Need some evidence? Ask Saenger - he would surely remember ;) [edit]Please do not understand the last sentence in ironical tone. No, Saenger is/was/willnotbe a member of the team, he was maybe the most vocal fighter against.[/edit] Peter |

(Need some evidence? Ask Saenger - he would surely remember ;) I definitely remember the barbarian :( And afaik not all projects have yet reinstalled the stolen teams to their rightful owners. I'm checking all projects I'm founder for SETI.Germany at least once every two month, to prevent an email blunder to get our team stolen. The Team itself doesn't have to be inactive btw, an inactive founder is sufficient for a hijack. Grüße vom Sänger |

I seem to remember this was quite a big problem about 3+ years ago. Quite a few teams in different projects seem to have been hijacked. Make sure you decline the request, and schedule a review as Saenger suggested others have done. |

I seem to remember this was quite a big problem about 3+ years ago. Quite a few teams in different projects seem to have been hijacked. You don't need to hijack a team to steal it's name. You just put a full stop, ie, a DOT, at the end of the name. Credits are not always as valuable as a team name to someone who originally thought to use it in BOINC and is dear to them. Hi John and Saenger. Yes I do recall that there were some things going on at that time. As you suggest, it does pay to keep a weather eye open upon things. |
