I released a new application for Android and BOINC 7.18. This application needs you enable remote control. If remote control is not enabled, results returned will be invalid and no hours will be counted. |

Validation error. and I have remote control enabled. Still some work to do. Question: Why is remote control needed. It should be only for the user to have remote access to his hosts and not be used by a application. It also useses a password witch the application can not know. |

After switching remote control off and back on again now it works. Still the question remains why its needed. |

To get data, the application uses the same protocol as the manager BOINC or BoincTasks. Before version 7.18.x, RPC protocol was using Unix socket. Since version 7.18.x BOINC protocol uses TCP Socket. Like BoincTasks, WUProp application needs remote control enabled to get data from BOINC. |

To get data, the application uses the same protocol as the manager BOINC or BoincTasks. It's in the BOINC PROGRAM: Open BOINC / Go to Menu / Preferences / scroll down to Enable Remote Control (about 3/4 ways to bottom) / Check the box on the right side of screen, BOINC will close and restart. ![]() ![]() |

To get data, the application uses the same protocol as the manager BOINC or BoincTasks. It's not there on mine? Did it download the wrong app? I'm using Boinc 7.16.16 |

To get data, the application uses the same protocol as the manager BOINC or BoincTasks. Guessing it doesn't apply. See thread title. |

... It's not there on mine? Did it download the wrong app? I'm using Boinc 7.16.16 The latest Android version 7.18.1 is ONLY AVAILABLE to download from the BOINC SERVER. It's not in Google Playstore. * It has to be downloaded manually (easiest to use the web browser on your android device) AND MANUAL INSTALL from https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dl/boinc_7.18.1.apk Once download, you will have to double tap/click the download name and say YES to to prompt to allow permission to install from a file/untrusted source (also known as "side loading"). ![]() ![]() |

Is it still going to be 6 hours monitoring? I just found out about the new app (just missed the announcement last check-in) and at the current rate it doesn't, but BOINC can be funny with times and I know the old app would just keep incrementing the time remaining. Thank you for the new Android client. My little legion of Droids are happy to be counted once again. Onward Ho! ~Yav |

BOINC 7.18.1 and WUProp has worked on a Samsung phone for many years, but since a few weeks back it has stopped working, and I get errors for the reported tasks. Also remote management has stopped working even though it is switched on. I also switched it off, restarted the phone, switched it on, and restarted the phone, but no matter what I try remote management doesn't work at all. The password is correct. Pinging the phone works. Here is what I wrote in the Android forum on BOINC.Berkeley.Edu: I have a phone that I have been able to contact via BOINC Manager and BOINCTUI for years, but since a few days it is impossible. I check all computers and devices via BOINCTUI every day. There has been no upgrades of BOINC Manager or BOINCTUI on the computers or BOINC for Android on the phone. The phone uses boinc_7.18.1.apk 2021-08-08 11:18 12M since that is the latest version that works on that phone. I have tried newer, but they were not possible to install. It is possible to ping the phone from the same computer that runs BOINC Manager and BOINCTUI. I have of course tried to restart the phone and BOINC restarts automatically, but it still cannot communicate with BOINC Manager and BOINCTUI. The phone still runs e.g. Einstein@home and WUProp@home and reports finished tasks. Last month it did, according to WUProp@home: Einstein@Home Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo,GBT) 348.72 h (100.00%) Last week: Einstein@Home Binary Radio Pulsar Search (Arecibo,GBT) 31.98 h (100.00%) About the phone: samsung GT-S6790N - SDK: 16 ABI: armeabi-v7a ARM ARMv7 Processor rev 9 (v7l) [Impl 0x41 Arch 7 Variant 0x2 Part 0xc09 Rev 9] (1 processors) Android 3.0.15-1379436 (Android 4.1.2) It is the same problem to connect on other computers with BOINCTUI or BOINC Manager with Linux or Windows. Both the phone and the computers running BOINCTUI or BOINC Manager are on the same network and ping works. I have many other Android devices that can be contacted without problems. I have password on all Android devices. |
