I have an older computer that I have retired a year or two ago(I think I wore it out). I recovered the hard drive from it and installed it into a new computer I have just had built. A lot of my projects were still on the Hard Drive but a number, for some odd reason, were no longer on it when I hooked it back up. The computer is listed on the project web sites but not on my hard drive. So I thought I could just re-attach to the respective projects and all would be restored. I thought wrong, BOINC keeps generating a New Host ID on each project. I want to use the old Host ID on each project. I copied over the account info for each project from another computer which was fine but when each project updated it generated new IDs for each missing project. From a long while ago I remembered that if I restore the old ID and times it had contacted the servers in "client_state.xml" things would sort themselves out. This has not worked and generates a new ID again. So I have changed Host ID (<hostid>) in client_state.xml back to old Host ID I changed <rpc_seqno> (number of times has contacted the project server) to match account info on project. I changed <host_total_credit> to match account info. This has not stopped the generation of new host IDs. Anyone know what I am missing? I did this years ago but can't find where I got the information. Thanks Conan |

Sometimes it just doesn't work right. Found detailed instructions on SETI forums https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/forum_thread.php?id=82598#1918831[/list] |

Thanks Dr Who Fan That worked a treat. I was doing what it said but I was not stopping BOINC to do it so nothing stuck. I was able to change 11 hosts to match 11 projects in one go. Just one I can't change yet as it has a work unit on it and I can't delete the new host until it gets removed by the server (although I may still be able to reuse my old host even with the new one there, will give it a go). So I get to keep my old hosts ids (it is the same hard drive just updated hardware), one as low as 36, so didn't want to lose it. Thanks again Conan |

Great to hear it's working Conan. I keep things like that in my bookmarks and save a text file of the forum notes with original links in my cloud storage for easy access. |
