So they moved their forums to BOINC.ru, which I don't have an account for and using IMTranlate to navigate is possible, but tedious. I'll try and find the right spot to ask the question their but has anyone else gotten this error? Mon 13 Mar 2023 06:29:15 PM CDT | Gerasim@home | [error] Can't parse file info in scheduler reply: unexpected XML tag or syntax Ithena and CPDN are working fine, this is the only project with an error like that on my Linux VM. The results for that machine shows 1280 WU's appropriated to it, but not sent. Maybe I'll wait a day and see if they discover this issue through a native speaker and correct. Now off to figure out how to get Parlea to run on this newly installed BOINC Android app. I forget how to add non standard projects to android; wish BAM! worked for me. |

You can add new projects on Android by providing the projects web address in the projects section which would be parlea.ru/boinctest. Only the cycle search wus will work. I have a phone that already processed a few of the files succesfully but then ran out of work. |

I've been using Boinc Tasks 1.88 to Monitor & Add Projects to my Androids ... https://efmer.com/boinctasks/download-boinctasks/ https://signature.statseb.fr/sig-1323.png https://stats.free-dc.org/badgesbanner.php?cpid=13a87c3a303bcdca4ba0ed600daebb6b |

You can make a new account for Gerasim by using https://gerasim.boinc.ru/ in the Boinc Manager and get the cpu, Linux, Nvidia and AMD tasks each with it's own app in wuprop |

Been doing their WU's since May 2 2019. My 1st password was over 20 characters and I couldn't log in so used their BOINC style forums and contacted the admin. They moved the forums. Their Linux version actually has the BOINC mgr disconnects from the BOINC client when it attempts to d/l work. Have to reboot the VM or else it saves BOINC config files in the home directory of the user instead of the normal data folder. It's BOINC 7.6.33 which came from Debian sources last May orso. Wonder if most the WU hours seen are on WSL. Thanks for the solutions for the Android work. Parlea usually releases new tests on the weekends, maybe get another shot. |

Yes the old place was cranking up the costs and Gerasim offered to host the Get Decic Fields tasks instead of Number Fields where it used to be, they made a deal within a couple of days and now we can work on getting more Stars and Rings from their tasks. Their Linux version actually has the BOINC mgr disconnects from the BOINC client when it attempts to d/l work. Wonder if most the WU hours seen are on WSL. I don't know what you mean when you say "Their Linux version actually has the BOINC mgr disconnects from the BOINC client when it attempts to d/l work." but it does require you to do some cpu tasks before you can get some of the gpu tasks. I wonder if it's the version of Boinc you are using, do the newer versions not work on your version of Linux? I had a guy load Petri's version of Linux on an NVME drive for me and he loaded Boinc into the Home folder as well, it's now MUCH easier to make changes to the way Boinc works!!! I will be attempting to duplicate what he did on all future Boinc installs on my Linux pc's. Parlea usually releases new tests on the weekends, maybe get another shot. I got one yesterday but it was only one and very short, less than an hour. |

I took a look at the LHC-dev XTrack tasks history and the aborted, or past deadline, WU's actually did get a resend (zombie67 got some ;) ). The ones that hit Linux OS ran in 3 sec and validated; the Windows OS ran forever without checkpointing (the multiOS concept isn't quite working). Anyway, I noticed the BOINC version on some of those Linux boxes were 7.16.x or 7.18.x. My version is 7.6.33... so I better get the update from BOINC website and not count on the Debian sources that AntiX is connecting too. Don't want to do much more work on that VM, it served my needs for 4 years and it's been touchy.
The BOINC Mgr actually disconnects, turns grey, says it's attempting to connect to the client every time I try to get Linux Gerasim WU's. Very strange. The logs complain about a missing [/xml] bracket IIRC |

Yes I found that on a machine with the recommended BOINC version from the BOINC website, 7.4.25 I think it is and it does the same thing with Gerasim, restarting BOINC or the Manager (I am not sure which) every time I click on something to do with Gerasim, such as highlighting it to do an update. The screen goes black BOINC disappears then a short time later comes back but it has restarted the Client as well as the Manager as some work units start again from scratch. Tried to update that BOINC version but it was not successful so back to the old version and NO Gerasim, removed it from my computer as all it did was trash over 500 work units with some error I have forgotten. I could not report it as I don't speak Russian and don't read it either. So I let it go as it works on my newer computers with no problems. Conan |

If you use the Google browser it will translate the page into German, English whatever. BUT to report a bad task you have to sign up with different credentials and then they will do a 2 factor check and then you can post. I tried that a few times and it always failed for me so I just read their forums instead. You can't get gpu tasks from Gerasim until after your pc processes some cpu tasks first, something about making sure your pc can do them. Then you can go in and uncheck the cpu task box and get gpu tasks. The main problem for me with Gerasim is that they have the venues setup funky, they aren't like normal Boinc websites where you can put this pc in this venue and that pc in a different venue, nope every pc is in the same venue. The site does know whether you have an AMD or Nvidia gpu though and only sends you the tasks that work on your pc. |

Thanks mikey, but that is a bit too much trouble, I run Linux mostly so Firefox for me and at the moment also no GPUs to worry about. So once goals are met I might give Gerasim a miss or at least any problems they will have to find and fix instead of me telling them. Conan |

On the Gerasim the first link is home, then global prefs then project prefs click on project prefs and you will see this: Applications Get Decic Fields Get Decic Fields (nVidia) Get Decic Fields (opencl_amd) Get Decic Fields (Linux) The first one is for Windows only cpu's and if you are using Linux it won't send you any tasks until you click the Linux app. There's an update preferences in the middle of the page, click on that and you should start getting tasks. Just above and to the left of the update preferences box is this box: Use ATI GPU Yes No Use NVIDIA GPU Yes No Use INTEL GPU Yes No Use CPU Yes No Have fun. |

Thanks for confirming my issues. Yeah, BOINC d/l is 7.4.22 so the 7.6.33 I have is a beta and, seemingly, latest for native Linux OS x64. So the versions that are reporting 7.16.x 7.18.x sure seem like Windows installs using WSL. My 2700x might be ready for WSL right now; I'll see if WSL installs easily.
I used IMTranslate and have posted to their earlier forums with success, but the new Forums are hosted at Moscow University with very wide variety of subsections. Found the Gerasim@Home subforum, and could try again, if I create a login, but some native Russian speaker using a native Linux OS should eventually notice, since this is confirmed on two machines now. Thanks Conan for saving me any more diagnostic time. |

The BOINC (Berkeley) site lists 7.4.25 as the latest stable BOINC version for Linux. However they also list version 7.16.6 (as a download "boinc_ubuntu_7.16.6_x86_64-pc-linux-gnu.sh"), even though it says Ubuntu it will install on Fedora and others. I have it installed on two other computers and when it installs it comes up as version 7.17.0 Pre-release. It works fine. I just had issues upgrading my older computer (Intel i5) to the test version (which has been a test version for a year i think), so had to drop it back. But the newer Linux version works well and is getting Gerasim work units. Conan |

Thanks Mikey, Conan. I had used the basic D/L page but, after your posts, searched harder and found this d/l page (forgot about this page): https://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php Will try to get AntiX Linux VM to install that 7.16.6 ver sometime this week. The WSL precursor libraries installed successfully on my 2700x box (can't just restart it anytime I wish with SiDock Long not properly checkpointing) and Ubuntu looks like easiest WSL Unix to choose since BOINC 7.16.6 is meant for it. But, I was hoping to try the Alpine Linux distro for WSL since it's the basis for postmarketOS linux that is successfully running on a whole lot of ARM cell phones and tablets. |
