Message 11263 - Posted: 4 Feb 2025, 14:37:09 UTC

About 3 days ago, my bouncer machines and browsers cannot connect to this site. Did something change? I asked around, and I am not the only one having this same problem. Although it appears that most people, particularly those in Europe, are not having the problem. I thought maybe my isp (ATT) was blocking, so I changed DNS servers to cloud flair and then to google, with no luck. The only reason I can even post this is because my cellular provider (Verizon) doesn’t have the problem. Any thoughts?

Using another DNS would check if the URL vs IP could connect or not (wuprop.boinc-af.org vs 51.178.133.229). Try a VPN to see if your IP is blocked on ATT.

Yes, I tried several different DNS servers. As for using the IP address you suggested, it takes me to an Apache2 page, not the site itself.

I don’t have a vpn service. Are there free ones I could use to try it out?

A DNS just takes boinc-af.org and converts it to the IP address so network equipment can route traffic.

There are some free trial VPNs ya can test with.

Ding! Something just changed! I can now access the site again, and my machines have uploaded the tasks, and downloaded new tasks.

I am not sure what the issue was, but it seems fixed now.

As for DNS, some DNS servers block/filter sites. So I was trying different DNS servers, just in case my ISP's DNS server was the culprit.

I use Cloud Flare for all my pc's as it's faster and filters less than Google and my own ISP, Focus Broadband, an AT&T Service Provider. I was also blocked and like you "Ding!" everything was back again. I think a major hop site went down as for me even Yahoo wouldn't load!!

Right now I have negative numbers, like others are seeing as well, but even so they are still higher than yesterday for the apps I am running.

As for free VPN's here is a free one for Windows, I don't use it as I pay for SurfShark, but don't use it either right now as I'm being good.

FWIW, since I could connect and get work about 12 hours ago, I am not getting any hours, positive or negative. I am hoping that it sorts itself out soon.

Since the server came back to life yesterday almost all my uploads are stuck. Detaching from the project doesn't help either as I am unable to reconnect.. Strangely two of my hosts work normally. One runs UBUNTU 24.10, the other one Windows 10. Anybody else with the same problem?

All mine seem fine. My hours don't indicate server down time. Tasks are ~1 hour apart

Looking at one of your PCs there is a gap starting at 10 Apr 2025, 4:48:48 UTC. After that, my largest gap in the next hour between any of my PCs returning work is about 11 min where the server could have been down. But I'd guess it was not that the issue is between you and the server.
Some other projects have had issues with cloudflare recently and allowing access. But I'd think that would affect many more than just you.

Could be. My hosts are slowly recovering one after another. On two I still can't add Wuprop after I detached from it so that may indeed point towards a Cloudfare problem. Which I am not using as far as I know...

Most individuals don't use CloudFlare, it's a website (such as this one) that uses it to manage access to their servers.

I'm not sure if Sebastian uses CloudFlare to protect this site.

The problem is back for me. I cannot connect to wuprop or formulaboinc via ATT.

I have ATT/UVerse over copper Telco line for my Internet service (South Fort Worth TX metro) and have not seen any problems to WuProp using BOINC clients (3 Android, 3 Windows & 1 Linux devices) or to or Formula BOINC using any web browser.

Who/What do you use for your DNS SETTINGS?

I have been using the free version of OpenDNS.com for about 20 years now and almost never had any problems except the few times that I posted about BOINC clients not connecting.

OpenDNS resolvers
* IPV4: (208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220)
* IPV6: (2620:119:35::35 & 2620:119:53::53)

Like before, the problem is now resolved. I can connect again. And like before, I have no idea why. Either the admin or ATT fixed the problem.

FWIW, changing the DNS servers was one of the many things I tried, but did not resolve the issue. I tried ATT's default servers, as well as cloudflair's and google's.

Your IP was banned by fail2ban.
I adjusted some rules. Hope this will be sufficient to prevent false positive and protect the server.
