Message 9507 - Posted: 31 Dec 2022, 12:35:33 UTC - in response to Message 3515.

Just saw this post from December 2015 when I had my first star, and I said that I had to keep myself on track working on my 20 projects and not get off-topic and start badge-chasing.

That didn't work. :D

Seven years later, I'm on track for a "color suite" of stars. One each, bronze through cyan. Sometime in the next couple of months. (Yeah, I know, I don't pick "common" goals...)

Sebastien, I want to say THANK YOU for this project, this site, all the work you've poured into it over the years. I've gotten more pure enjoyment out of WuProp than any other "goals" I've set on individual projects. I've discovered projects I never would have found otherwise, done a LOT more at my "main" projects, and gotten who-knows how many other people addicted to WuProp.

Job well done, and congratulations!

Congratulations Bok, great effort, good way to welcome in 2023.

I would of picked this up before if I hadn't been so slack about doing my next badge update list.
I will get to it sooner or later.

...though power price rises of up to 50% by mid next year will probably slow me down).
Conan

Prices are doubling and tripling here....Swimming pools face a seven-fould increase of there monthly bill...

Ameren UE forced smart meters on all of us and we had to pick rate plans.

I got this Ultimate Savers with 4.1 cents/KWh off-peak but 31 cents from 6-8am and 6-8pm.
My electric bill is slightly lower this winter but the 2x per day down times is a strain.
Wish BOINC just easily supported more than 1 pause period per day.
Instead have to dual install or use VM's.

I need to get the servers to sleep and wake properly hoping it doesn't introduce errors into particular project WU's (like Amicable or Yafu).
.
.
.
Oh yeah, I added a third ring. (34 failures to get to 100 hours. Beef@home really irked me and I really tried to get the Nickycat, all the Gaias and that BURP one. Grumble).
Thanks Conan for all this work.

You could always remove your pause period and set up a scheduled task to disable boinc for your expensive periods using boinccmd. As you're running Windows, you'd need to set the following batch job to run at 0555 and 1755 in the task scheduler (includes 5 minutes before and after your expensive period to make a generous latency allowance and cater for the remote possibility of some clock drift):

cd {your boinc program directory}
.\boinccmd --set_run_mode never 7800

Thanks, I'll try that out. Haven't used boinccmd in years and forgot about it.
Tried to get this question answered at BOINC forums but the security system wanted me to answer a confirmation email, then never sends it.
Their Skype help desk isn't answering calls and the Google group response was only a personal email to Anderson can get a fix.
If any of you have his ear, or a solution, my email to davea@berkley.edu on Dec 23 has gone unanswered and I'm still locked out of BOINC main forums.

It would be cheaper to have all computing systems sleep on peak periods, but surprisingly, peak usage was 48 kwh of 1150 total, even tho the servers report using 115W draw sitting idle.

(Only you all would understand these issues; my other family and friends eyes glass over if I bring this up...)

Another upgrade for me

My 13th star has turned Red

>>>>

260 Applications now past 1,000 Hours

I love it when a colour changes, makes some of the effort seem worthwhile.

Onward with the fun.
