For me LODA is pulling over 1 GB of RAM for a single task, this may be a cause of some failures with lack of resources.

I could be in trouble with BOINC thinking the WU run in 13 minutes but so it has run for 2 hours and not half done. BOINC downloaded a heap of these tasks (460 on a 4 core cpu) so I doubt I will get through them.

This is on a Linux machine.

Well the first one failed and I have 13 pending validation and .... 1 valid with credit.

We will see where this goes. The valid ran 4.6 hours on an
Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8265U CPU @ 1.60GHz

I did get GIT to install on the other LINUX Box I have. It seems to be running the WU's Okay. Not sure why GIT installed this time but not before other than I let LINUX Update itself & then tried installing GIT again & it worked.

The Win 10 Pro Box still just spits out errors after a few seconds & the Win 7 Pro Box I have still refuses to add the Project. All I get is a 184 or a 185 error when trying top add the Project. It's a WiFi only box as is the Win 10 box so maybe that has something to do with it ... ???

Neither of my Win 7 Pro Box's will attach to the Project, 1 is hardwired & the other is WiFi, the hardwired one just says it failed to attach & the WiFi 1 just gets the 184 or 185 error ...

This post worked for me on a W10 PC of mine.

And I see the admin linked the same post on the project forums.

you can find account_boinc.loda-lang.org_loda.xml file in the data folder of BOINC on WIN10
copy it in the same place in WIN7 and restart BOINC

you can create the file yourself as described here https://boinc.loda-lang.org/loda/weak_auth.php

Nothing here works ! I have Curl & Git Visual installed, I copied every project xml file to the new Win 11 20 Thread Laptop I have, about 1/3 of the Projects attached okay & the rest just give me a non discript general error of 183-184-185 & tells me can't it connect but my internet connection is okay & the project servers might be down & to try later ...

I've never had a problem attaching to any Project now all of a sudden nothing but problems ...

If you're getting "Error while computing" there was a problem with early app downloads that needs a project reset. Works fine subsequently.

There is a new app with work: Beta of DENIS-myocyte

But hours seem to be added to an old app: Beta version of the DENIS Myocyte software for validation

I know it is an old app, because I already had 30k hours. If this new app is not going to get it's own new star, there is no point in running it.

It's the same application name, but a different version number. WUProp counts hours based on the application name.

In client_state.xml, the relevant parts from the application versions are:

<app_name>DENIS_Myocyte_Beta</app_name>
<version_num>101</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>DENIS_Myocyte_Beta_1.01_windows_x86_64</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>

for the previous "Beta version of the DENIS Myocyte software for validation" and

<app_name>DENIS_Myocyte_Beta</app_name>
<version_num>8</version_num>
<file_ref>
<file_name>DENIS_Myocyte_Beta_0.08_windows_x86_64</file_name>
<main_program/>
</file_ref>

for "Beta of DENIS-myocyte".

All that's happened is that Jesús has given the new version a different name, presumably because the previous validation phase has been completed, although it is strange to have the version number going from 1.01 to 0.08.

That is a bit of a bummer, I thought I had a new one.

Oh well I will increase my hours maybe get a different colour.

I can't check anything at the moment as the site is down and I can't report results.

Sad News from NumberFields@home: Future of the Project

Eric Driver / Project administrator / Project scientist wrote:
I've been procrastinating in sharing some news and I finally got around to doing it.

My old thesis advisor who has been backing this project retired in May. I don't actually work for the university, so this means the project has lost is primary benefactor.

The good news is that the university has allowed the project to continue. The bad news is that they will not be supporting any more hardware upgrades. This means when the current hardware fails the project will come to an end.

I'm hoping the current hardware can last several more years. One of the most critical parts is the hard drive, and we just got a new one about 1.5 years ago. Given that the previous hard drive lasted over 4 years, this is a positive.

This news has played into my reasoning on the order of the searches. Given that sf3 is practically guaranteed to be complete, I though it was prudent to use our finite time to first concentrate on sf7. The short term goal is to get sf7 to the same state that sf3 is currently in, which should take us into early next year. At that point, we can either spend the time to finish off sf3 and sf7, or continue on with sf6. Doing sf6 will allow us to find more fields in the finite time we have left, but finishing off sf3 and sf7 will allow us to say with 100% certainty that they are indeed complete. I am leaning towards finishing off sf3 and sf7, but that may change as time goes on.

I posted asking if there was a way to donate for a new harddrive now so when the time comes it won't be as big a hit, I hope there is.
