"CompositeGrid" is a totally bogus "project". I should know -- I run it. It's PrimeGrid's development server, and NOTHING on there is valid. It's only used (rarely) for testing, and nothing on there counts. Nobody should be picking up badges for "work" done there. Anyone running tasks from that system is contributing to global warming and their electric bill, but doing nothing else that's useful. I wipe the database there regularly, or set it up with whatever oddball configuration I need. None of the information that WUProp is gathering from my test server is meaningful. It's not a "beta project". It's used to test our BOINC server software. Thank you. |

 New "applications" from CompositeGrid are still announced in "[Beta] New / Intermittent applications" (22 times since 16 Aug 2016) http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/forum_thread.php?id=351&postid=4234#4234  (I can read from first post they are "automatically published" but why? David Anderson uses the power of the crowd to test new versions of whatever on the BOINC test server and that achieves just as little science as you're claiming. Yet testing is a valid activity. Whatever your purpose, a test IS useful else don't bother. We're all more than happy to test systems, apps, configurations. For the most part we're adults capable of making our own decisions. Plenty of us are delighted to help out on the non-science and we'd like to help you. Why not? What have you got to lose? |

 Because sometimes we test things. Sometimes privately. Sometimes publicly. Either way, however, if WUProp is running on the computer that is connecting to the test server, it's going to report those tasks to the WUProp server, which automatically posts forum announcements here. |

David Anderson uses the power of the crowd to test new versions of whatever on the BOINC test server and that achieves just as little science as you're claiming. Sometimes we do just that. It's certainly helpful when we have something that we think is production-ready and want to give it a thorough shake out. Having real users access the server often reveals problems we didn't think to look for. But if we've got something that we know doesn't work, and we're trying to fix it, having a crowd grabbing thousands of tasks when I only care about what happens to ONE task is harmful, not helpful. It hides the information I'm looking for in an ocean of irrelevant data, and it also means I need to make the server robust enough to serve an unexpectedly large number of tasks. Not to mention the time wasted trying to figure out why there's thousands of tasks going out instead of just 1. |

 Yes I've found a few people are still running the CompositeGrid Project here at WuProp. Not me though, I'm not one of the fortunate ones to be allowed to run it. If a project isn't a open Project then I think it should be completely removed from the WuProp data base as Michael Goetz requested some time ago. |

Well, I just found out that some tasks my comps did run from CompositeGrid were finally zeroed out here. Either just remove it completely or let it like it is. Negative hour entries are just stupid... From my point of view, Michael Goetz made a mistake from the very beginning as he just let the whole server open to the "accounts" from PrimeGrid which are more or less tied to CompositeGrid. I'm sure it would have been possible to just block access when he just doesn't wanted anyone to run it. It is ignorant, arrogant and a kind of dictator- and censorship then to say, that hours earned here at WUProp should be removed. I don't know how much people in total did test tasks from the project but probably not very many. To refer to the start post coming with the reason of global warming is just ridiculous because the contribution due to running CompositeGrid is probably as tiny as an amoeba is in comparison to a blue whale, if not even smaller. No one can really measure that. And electricity bills are just everyone's own decision. If it were for that, I wouldn't even do BOINC anymore since long ago. STE\/E wrote:

I was just about to ask if Charity Engine was able to be attached to a client. It won't attach for me with user or email. You have to use the Charity Engine Client to attach, I haven't been attached to them for quit awhile now because they seem to try & take over your BOINC Client so I avoid them now. |

I was just about to ask if Charity Engine was able to be attached to a client. It won't attach for me with user or email. Email confirmation said the BOINC client could be used. Looks like it's not attached as a project but as an account manager. It seems to not be it's own project but just sends work from other projects? Hey guys, First of all, I'm sorry I was such a dick about it last time and I apologize for my behavior. All the WUProp hour hunters who swarmed onto the dev system really made my life miserable and made for a lot of extra work for me. I was frustrated and angry, and over-reacted. Anyway, here's the way I'm handling the dev system going forward, so you know what to expect. 1) PLEASE don't use the dev system if you've not been invited to do so. It causes problems for us. Because I need the dev system to be as similar to the live system as possible, I'm not going to set it up with access codes that aren't on the live system. 2) On the rare times that it's turned on, unless it's specifically turned on for general user testing and open to all, I'll be deleting anyone's account that's accessing the server who isn't supposed to do so. Since account creation is turned off on the dev server, it's pretty much game-over if your account gets deleted. I'm not doing this to be nasty -- all the unauthorized activity makes it very difficult to do what I need to do. 3) When we do MAJOR new software releases, we'll likely open up the dev system for open user testing. This will be discussed on PrimeGrid's forums, and typically we send out announcements that show up in the Notices tab of your BOINC clients. P.S. The dev system is called "CompositeGrid". The "Private GFN Server" is something else altogether, and it's pretty much open to anyone but you do need to talk to the guy who runs it. Instructions are elsewhere on this forum, and are also on PrimeGrid's GFN forums. |

Since pretty much day one, CharityEngine allowed people to use the BOINC client by merely using it as the account manager. I had never used their client. And yes, this is how WUProp gets the info unless there was some oddity where WUProp was in the BOINC client also pulling from another clients info. If that is the case, then would be a huge privacy concern...

This project still showed up yesterday. The block on "CompositeGrid" appears to have been lost during recovery from the recent database problem here. I suspect the block will be reinstated at some point, at which point all the CompositeGrid WUProp hours will vanish again. This is out of my control. I don't recommend running CompositeGrid, unless you are actually doing PrimeGrid testing. (There is currently no testing right now.) Want to find one of the largest known primes? Try PrimeGrid. Or help cure disease at WCG.
