If something on the project end was not configured correctly it should effect everyone, but it doesn't appear to be. Sometimes BOINC has weird issues due to corruption in the client_state.xml. Which the only way to fix is to remove client_state.xml and client_state_prev.xml form the system. It is preferable to detach the host from its active projects first.
