I am unable to find anything on this error.

It apparently started on one of my computers about the 8/11/2022 (8th Nov) and I just get
"This computer has Finished a Daily Quota of 1 tasks" "No tasks Sent"

When I found the error I tried
A Reset of the Project - no change
Stop and restart Boinc - no change
Reboot computer - no change
Detach and Re-attach using https - no change
Detach and Re-attach using http - no change

I don't really know what else to try.

It is an older computer still working fine and still running BOINC without an issue but can't run Wuprop. 32 bit OS WinXP and running this project fine till about the 8th Nov.

The BOINC version is 7.14.2 which is the last one for 32 bit Windows and the same as I have on 2 other 32 bit laptops (Win 7).

Any ideas? As I could find nothing in this forum.

Thanks

Try leaving both the http:// AND the https:// off and just use wuprop.boinc-af.org/ it worked for my buddy who still uses Win7 on one of his pc's

Thanks mikey, I just tried your suggestion and unfortunately no change, did not work.

Still getting the same error message.

Any other ideas? Anyone?

OK, thanks Sebastien.

I had a thought that may of been the case, disappointing as I was the number 9 computer before the application update.

Been running BOINC for a long time (still am), in order to get my hours added it looks like I will have to upgrade (either the computer or the software), change, I am not the best with change, alas not a lot I can do about it but go with the flow, I suppose.
If the computer died (it is around 10 years old, hence Win XP), I would be in the same boat, so no worries.

Thanks again

A nice fresh install of Linux will speed that thing right back up again, add in a 240gb ssd drive for under $20US and it will be better than ever

That maybe on the cards.

I had checked the application list and it showed that Windows 98 or later, which includes Win XP was still a valid OS (and it still does list it as of this morning the 17th).

So that is why I did not see a problem with my Win XP OS.

I have not seen any announcement about the updated applications.

Yes, this should have been updated in the same moment as the app. And than of course the server should not send any WUs to computers, which are not anymore compatible with the app.

It sad that support for Windows XP has been dropped. I had these problems:
https://wuprop.boinc-af.org/forum_thread.php?id=634&postid=9561#9561
Maybe there should be a better error message: i.e. that Windows XP is no longer supported. The reason I use Windows XP on this computer (EeePC 1001HA) is that it's my only computer with Windows XP and I use it configure a powerline network adapter. I can run Linux from an SD-card, but I believe it will be difficult to get it to reboot into Linux automatically. My WinXP computer is far away from where I am normally.

Like I said, the server should not send any tasks to hosts, which can't run them, just an error message. This should have been changed same moment as the new app was released. Also the app description should be changed on the application page, currently the minimum requirement stated there is Windows 98.

We ran into the same problem developing apps at PrimeGrid: it's close to impossible to develop apps that will run on current versions of Windows as well as XP, so 32 bit XP had to go. 64 bit XP was harder still, and was dropped years ago.

I don't speak for Sebastian, but it wasn't that we didn't want to support XP but rather that it became prohibitively difficult to do so.

Einstein's FGRP5 and probably also BRP4G (not tested myself) run on XP, Milkyway runs on XP (at least the CPU app, not sure about the GPU app), Rosetta runs on XP. They all run on current versions of Windows as well and that are just the very few projects that I participate in and have run the current versions of their apps on XP myself.

But I do understand, that if issues arise, it doesn't seem worth to spend too much time on an OS, that run out of support nearly 9 years ago and is used only on ancient hardware with very limited computing power. Just the server should be configured properly to not send tasks to machines, that can't run them and send instead some useful message, so the user can see why the machine didn't receive any work.

Sorry Link, but Rosetta does not run on XP anymore. I have XP and was blocked from Rosetta over a year ago.
However Asteroids, Numberfields, TNGrid all do run on 32 bit XP but no hours will be recorded on this web site unfortunately.

I will have to see what data is essential to keep and maybe change that computer to Linux 64 bit which will run heaps of things, however that AMD Phenom is now around 10 years old (80GB hard drive still going strong) so hoping it will run a bit longer.

Run linux in a VM, and you can use the VM to attach to projects which can no longer support XP. For CPU Linux apps, at least.

And, yes, it definitely can be done. I was using VMs on XP back when XP was the current version of Windows. Specifically, I was running 64 bit Linux in a VM under 32 bit Windows XP (on a 64 bit CPU, of course.) It's possible it requires a CPU with hardware virtualization. At that time, some CPUs had it, some didn't. And, no, I don't remember the details. My guess is you would need a really old version of VMWare Player.

Hmm... OK, the last time I run Rosetta on XP was version 4.17, the current is 4.21.

Anyway, even without Rosetta, most of the projects I run suport XP and you added few more to the list. So it doesn't seem that close to impossible to write applications that support Windows XP and also current versions of Windows.

As a side note: I even tried some games that were originally created for Win95-ME, most still run absolutely fine on Win10, all they need are write permissions in their installation dir. I was surprised myself.

A 250gb SSD drive is now about $25US thru Amazon, I don't know if you have Sata plugs but they do make adapters if not. I run most of my Linux installs, they are Boinc only pc's, on them and they run just fine as long as you either manage the updates or turn them off. Turning off the updates is NOT recommended for pc's that you keep stuff on that can be compromised.

Any idea why this computer isn't getting the WinXP version of the app from the servers? I resetted the project two times, checked that the WUprop dir is empty after that, but the servers still send me the standard app.
